Essex boatbuilder Harold Burnham says that the Ardelle, under construction since September, is now scheduled to be launched Saturday, July 9, with the high tide about 6 p.m.

But launching a boat is not the same as finishing a boat.

"It probably will be in the water July 9, but there will still be work to be done," said Burnham, owner of the legendary local boatyard H.A. Burnham Shipbuilding & Design. He had tentatively hoped to launch the vessel over the Fourth of July weekend.

Burnham is on the last leg of the much-observed construction of a schooner that someday will take guests around the waters of Cape Ann.
