A week 'til launch: Schooner should hit the water July 9 in Essex

Essex boatbuilder Harold Burnham says that the Ardelle, under construction since September, is now scheduled to be launched Saturday, July 9, with the high tide about 6 p.m.
But launching a boat is not the same as finishing a boat.
"It probably will be in the water July 9, but there will still be work to be done," said Burnham, owner of the legendary local boatyard H.A. Burnham Shipbuilding & Design. "But I don't consider a boat finished until the Coast Guard gives us full approval to take out passengers, and that could happen sometime in August."
He had tentatively hoped to launch the vessel over the Fourth of July weekend.
Burnham is on the last leg of the much-observed construction of a schooner that someday will take guests around the waters of Cape Ann.
